Susan's Maternal Grandparents

This is a photo of my maternal grandparents, Ruth and William Pruitt. I called them Papa and Nannie and I absolutely LOVED them....especially Papa! He served in World War II and was even at the Battle of the Bulge. He was just like the grandpa on The Waltons.....just the BEST! Nannie LOVED to sing and she used to play the guitar and piano. Papa never had any schooling beyond first grade but he was soooooooooooo smart when it came to practical things and just being Papa. I love this old picture of them because they just look so in love and cute. Of course they had their arguements and hard times but I have so many fond memories of growing up and having them in my life. They openly shared their love with me and I was so blessed to be Papa's "Tootie". I hope that our baby, Rebekah, will feel the love in her new family just like I had growing up. My family has always been the most important thing in my life and home was a place of refuge and safety. I want to carry on the old-fashioned ideals of family that people like Papa and Nannie instilled in me and continue the cycle of strong family bonds. Papa's middle name was McKinley and we've thought about Rebekah's middle name being McKinzie in honor of him and in hopes that she will possess the same gentle nature and enduring spirit. As we go through these months of waiting, we're going to post pictures of family to make our blog a collection of family memories and hopes for the future that we will share with our baby girl.

Painted The Nursery!!!!!!!!!

Well, Doug and I FINALLY painted the nursery yesterday (08/19/06). It is a BEAUTIFUL lilac color and we absolutely LOVE being in there! We still have to get a bookshelf, tall dresser, toy box etc. but we LOVE the room and hope that Baby Rebekah will love it too. The carpet is pink and goes well with the lilac. The room is decorated in a "Bear" motif and "girly" stuff. Very feminine and pretty. We hope that Bekah will also like the color for many years to come! We didn't want to make it too "babyish" but we still may get some decorations for the walls and of course some art work for the walls too. It feels so cozy in the room! I even put stuffed animals on the shelves above the curtains! I set up a table so I can sew her 100 wishes quilt in there and then the table will be replaced with a bookshelf and PLENTY of books which I've been collecting and getting from friends and colleagues (teachers). I have posted a picture of the cutest little gown that I bought. It has kitty cats on it and everyone KNOWS we love CATS! I also posted the diaper bag that Doug got me last year for my birthday with Pooh on it. We still have to get the padding for the rocking chair and an ottoman too but that's what all of these extra months of waiting are for, right? hahahahahaha

One Year "Anniversary"

One year ago today we met our social worker for the first time to begin our homestudy and to start the adoption process officially. So, as you can, we are still waiting. The waiting time has extended to almost 13 months instead of the 6-9 month wait that it was when we began. It is a hard wait.......but we are trying to stay positive and focused on the end result: a sweet baby to love and cherish!
We bought a little nightgown for the baby that we hope she will be able to wear one day. It is green with little kitty cats (we have three cats that we love and adore now) and it just looked so delicate and feminine, we couldn't resist. Hopefully by this time next year, the post will be different and we will be posting pictures of our daughter AND our cats!
We're still collecting 100 wishes quilt squares and wishes (we're up to 64). If you'd like to send one, just email us for the address. Thanks!

Our Secret Pals Send August Goodies! WOW!

Well our secret pals outdid themselves once again! WOW! We got our August box of goodies today and had an absolute BALL opening each and everything! Last time Susan opened most of the goodies so this time it was Doug's turn. Mr. and Mrs. Secret Pal were AWESOME! They had so much stuff in that box! First of all there was an adorable outfit that had a top, pants, and matching booties. They all had ladybugs on them! How adorable! There was a TY Beanie Bear that was just the cutest thing and so soft! There were 2 baby bibs-one with a ducky and one with a bear. There was an outdoor flower twirler to catch the breeze and it too had a ladybug on it! Also included in our surprise box were two ladybug pacifiers, a little journal notebook with ladybugs and butterflies on it, a baby animals book, a teddy bear plate, some COOL cat scrapbooking decorations, animal scrapbook paper, and THREE mice for our three cats! Savannah, Tabitha, and Chelsea LOVED those! I've even enclosed a few pictures of them playing with those. When I took them away from the girls to photograph, Chelsea ran up and got hers and took off with it! hahahahahahaThank you so much Mr. and Mrs. Secret Pal! You made our day so much brighter and we just simply LOVED EVERYTHING! The card and letter you sent were also wonderful. We keep those in Rebekah's journal that Susan is writing in for her. THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!LoveDoug and Susan! (and the girls who are at this moment playing like crazy with those mice!)
