Some Baby Stuff Photos

Here's some stuff that we have in the baby's room. We haven't decorated yet but we have a few things in the room just waiting for us to do all of the other decorating, painting, etc. The walls will be painted a lilac color and Susan is trying to talk Doug into letting her paint a mural on one wall.......we'll see if this happens. The theme is teddy bears and the ones on the mobile are detachable so as she outgrows it, she can still play with the stuffed animals on the mobile. The rocking chair will also have padding on the back and the seat but we have to pick out what we want it to look like. The framed poem is called The Chosen Heart and talks about how much we will love our little girl who we have chosen to adopt. The little blue bear says, "I love my Daddy" and was one of Doug's Father's Day presents this year. The Cabbage Patch doll is one we found one day at Toys-R-Us. She is Asian and her name on the little certificate that came with her is Becky (we plan on naming on our baby Rebekah and calling her Becky or Bekah. The little pink cat is one of the presents Doug got me for Christmas this past year. Since we LOVE cats, we thought that the baby would love that little pink one (named Penny). The books are parenting books/baby guides and the one called, "Our Chosen Child" is a baby book/memory book published just for adopted children. It is beautiful inside! Hope you enjoyed a peek into our "before" pictures of the nursery.

Doug and Susan Appleton

Hey everyone!
I didn't realize that we had never even posted a picture of ourselves on our blog so I'm going to do that now.

Starting School

Well, it was back to school time for Susan this week. I am teaching at a Year-round school this year....still 5th grade but this time I will be teaching Math, Science, and Soc. Studies instead of the Language Arts. It was hard work going in this week and setting the room up but I'm looking forward to meeting the children next week and getting started on a brand new year. My students last year did WONDERFUL on the Virginia SOL Tests at the end of the year! We had 97% passing in Writing and 96% passing in Reading which is what I taught! YAY! I was so proud of them and their accomplishments, I CRIED when I got the scores!
We also adopted a new kitten from Pet Smart in Burlington, NC on July 1st. Her name is Chelsea BitBit Appleton and she is what they call a "Hemingway Cat" because she has extra toes on her front paws which make her look like she as thumbs. They are also called "mitten kittens". She is adorable! The other two cats have adjusted to her and are also doing GREAT! (Pictured above are Savannah and Tabitha on the top and Chelsea on the bottom). We love our "girls".Doug made good grades in his classes at Averett this semester. He made an A in Ecology and a B in New Testament. He is still working at Averett in the Information Technology department. We can't believe that summer is almost over and Fall will soon be here! That is Susan's FAVORITE season! On August 5th we will have reached our 4 month anniversary of our Log-In date with China for our adoption. We hope and pray that things will speed up with the process so that we can bring our baby Rebekah home soon! So many people have sent in their quilt squares and "wishes" for our 100 Wishes Quilt. We have 54 now, so please help us out if you haven't sent yours yet. We want you to be a part of this memorable blanket that I'm sure will mean so much to our baby as she grows older and looks back at her Quilt Memory book to see just WHO sent her which piece of fabric and what they wished for her. Enjoy the rest of your summer and everyone: STAY COOL! Love you all!
